Kohila Männi Kindergarten’s Green Team was rewarded for its successful participation in a digital decluttering campaign with a valuable prize – a visit to IT company GreenDice. What initially began as an educational visit soon developed into a meaningful and sustainable partnership, resulting in the kindergarten receiving a comprehensive IT solution with reliable, fully managed technology.
According to the kindergarten's Headteacher, Ragne Pesur, the impact has been significant. "Previously, our teachers spent a great deal of time dealing with technical issues. Today, we can focus on what really matters – working with the children. Reliable technology and responsive support give us the confidence to do that."
Pesur explains that digital tools and a reliable internet connection are essential to teachers' daily work. They are used to communicate with parents, manage documentation and access teaching materials. GreenDice carried out a comprehensive audit of the kindergarten's IT equipment, and the results were striking: of the 20 computers in use, only two were fully functional, while the remaining 18 were responsibly recycled.
GreenDice replaced them with a centrally managed device-as-a-service solution supported by a cloud-based system. This enables teachers to access their personal accounts from any computer and easily share teaching materials with colleagues. Another important improvement has been the addition of staff training and ongoing technical support. Whereas technical issues previously could take weeks or even months to resolve, GreenDice now typically responds within 24 hours.
The new IT solution also highlighted one of the kindergarten's biggest remaining challenges – the quality of its internet connection. Although the kindergarten has access to fibre broadband, the connection is unstable and limits the full use of its digital tools. According to the Headteacher, the local authority is already taking steps to address the issue.
Teachers integrate digital tools into learning in a balanced and purposeful way. For example, they use interactive magnifiers and cameras that allow children to explore nature and project images onto a large screen for closer observation. One particularly memorable project involved incubating chicks, during which children used the new tablets and cameras to observe the hatching process in real time. Watching chicks emerge from their eggs made the learning experience both engaging and memorable.
Technology also supports activities carried out as part of the Green School programme, which plays an important role at Männi Kindergarten. In 2025, the kindergarten focused on waste management and reuse. A glass outdoor pavilion was built, allowing outdoor learning to continue even in rainy weather, while children took part in a variety of gardening projects. One example was growing loofah gourds, which were later turned into natural sponges.
The kindergarten also organises litter-picking days twice a year and participates in a range of nationwide initiatives, such as Outdoor Learning Week, during which all kindergarten activities move outdoors for an entire week. These activities give children a practical understanding of environmental responsibility and help establish sustainable habits from an early age.
Environmental sustainability is a shared value that brings the kindergarten and GreenDice together. The IT company works with partner organisations to give retired IT equipment a second life through refurbishment and reuse. One such partner is Coop Pank, which has been donating its decommissioned devices through GreenDice since 2022.
The kindergarten's old computers were replaced with high-quality business-grade devices from Coop Pank's IT fleet. Although these computers no longer met the bank's performance and information security requirements, they remained in excellent condition and were ideally suited for use in educational institutions.
"Implementing circular economy solutions like this is an important part of Coop Pank's sustainability approach. Devices that are no longer used by the bank are not electronic waste – they are given a new lease of life in places such as kindergartens, helping to reduce waste while also strengthening digital capability," said Johanna-Maria Siilak, ESG Manager at Coop Pank.
The partnership between Männi Kindergarten and GreenDice has helped create an environment where technology supports learning. At the same time, it provides a practical example of the circular economy in action: high-quality devices are given a new purpose, while an educational institution gains access to modern technology together with the support and training needed to use it effectively.
